Note-1: Quantities shown has taken into considerations any overprints, surcharges & destructions made. For the souvenir sheets, original quantity of issue was 1,000,000.  In 1963, 100,000 copies were overprinted for the U.N. Adoption of the Declaration of Human Rights.  This resulted in negative quantity of 15,000.

Note-2:  Official records indicate that 915,000 souvenir sheets were cut-up to produce a 10c postage comprised of the combined 6c + 4c stamps, and, an 18c single postage stamp, all imperforate.  These were sold starting August 31, 1960 to the general public for use as postage.  Out of the 915,000 copies of the 18c, 635,001 remained unsold and burned in 1974.

1949 Universal Postal Union - 75th Death Anniversary

The Universal Postal Union (UPU), established by the Treaty of Bern of 1874, is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies among member nations, in addition to the worldwide postal system.  Founded October 9, 1874, it’s headquarters is in Bern, Switzerland.
