SAINT LOUIS COLLEGE, San Fernando, La Union - 50th Anniversary

"Looking Back With Joy and Gratitude, Forging Ahead Through Faith and Excellence"

The ownership and management of the Diocesan Father Burgos College, which was originally under the management of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia in 1948, was taken over by the missionaries of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) starting 1964.

It was Most Reverend Msgr. Juan Sison, D.D., who was then the Archbishop of Nueva Segovia and the diocesan head of San Fernando who requested the CICM Fathers to take over the management and administration of the school.

In his letter to the Rev. Charles Pieters, CICM, then the Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province, the good Archbishop happily informed him that the founder of Father Burgos College, Msgr. Anselmo Lazo, is gladly selling the College but has asked two conditions namely: that he, as the founder, will continue the management of the College until the end of the school year, and he will still manage the College until the summer term is completed.

In addition, Msgr. Sison, in his letter to Fr. Provincial date March 11, 1963, shared the good news that the people are already enthusiastic about the transfer of the College to Carlatan.  He mentioned several prominent families are asking about it because, they say, the school they were desiring for a long time, has finally come! The name Saint Louis College (SLC) was officially adopted in 1967 with “Sapienta Aedificat” meaning Wisdom Builds as its motto.

Since then, SLC, which is considered as the Beacon of Wisdom in the North, welcomed to its academic portals students coming from various points of the Ilokandia and nearby communities who thirst for academic excellence and integral human formation. Louisians, as what students and members of the academe are proudly called, continuously undergo transformation coupled with relevant yet fun-filled academic training which is centered on its core values of Christ-centeredness, excellence, and missionary thereby creating holistically trained youth of the present and future generations. Indeed, as Saint Louis College prepares itself for more in coming years, the SLC community continues to be true to its founding goals centered on True Christian Living, Relevant Academic Excellence, Active Social Involvement, and Committed Professional Leadership. Along these goals, Louisians – then and now – have shown meritorious achievements in various competitions in local, national, and international levels.

As Louisians continue to train the body and mind and look with eagerness to a bright future that beacons, the Louisian community look with much vigor and enthusiasm as SLC celebrates in 2014 her 50 golden years of being the finest source of wisdom builders and professionals.

This is SLC, the beacon that shines so bright in the Northern part of the Philippines, the source of wisdom, and the light that guides many towards values-oriented and quality Catholic education. Indeed, the academe since its foundation continues to commit to the integral human formation of the Youth to become Christ-centered and competent leaders responsive to the needs of Church and society by providing quality and transformative instruction, animating campus ministry, engaging in relevant researches and sustainable extension programs, forging ties with partner agencies, and fostering justice, peace, and integrity of creation.    http://www.slc-sflu.edu.ph/
