2020 YEAR OF THE RAT (Chinese New Year)

The Chinese Zodiac has twelve representative animals, namely: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. In Chinese culture, when a person is born, it is said that they manifest the characteristics of the animal they are born under. People born under the year of the Rat are supposedly adaptable, intelligent, and alert. The rat is also associated with wealth and abundance.

The special souvenir sheet features a 100-peso denomination stamp, flanked by the designs of the 2019 Year of the Pig and 2021 Year of the Ox stamps. Also present on the special souvenir sheet are the past Year of the Rat designs and the dates of past and future Years of the Rat.

This 2020 is the year of the Metal Rat. The previous of Year of the Rat was in 2008, and the next one comes in 2032. People born under the Year of the Rat include mathematician Alan Turing, renowned artist Carlos "Botong" Francisco, actor Leopoldo Salcedo, and former Senator Datu Salipada K. Pendatun.
