Ormoc City, Leyte, celebrated its 75th Charter
Day at the Ormoc City Superdome. Gracing the historic celebration
are President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., US Ambassador Marykay Carlson,
National Commission for Culture and the Arts and National Historical
Commission of the Philippines Chairman Rene Escalante, National
Museum of the Philippines Director General Jeremy Barns, Department
of Tourism Secretary Maria Christina Frasco, Philpost Chairman
Norman Fugencio, Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez,
and Ormoc City’s Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez.
After the unveiling, the signing of the Official
First Day Covers was held, followed by a five-minute introduction of
Battle of Ormoc Bay Commemoration performed by the famous El Gamma
Penumbra.
Republic Act No. 179 was signed on October 20,
1947, designating Ormoc as a city, becoming the first city in the
Eastern Visayas region and the fifteenth city in the Philippines.
