Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao, World Boxing Champion

Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978 in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Mindanao. He grew up and lives up to this day in General Santos City. His professional boxing career began in 1995 when he defeated Edmund Ignacio in a four-round bout. He has been a constant figure in the boxing arena for the next three years putting together an impressive string of victories before finally defeating Chartchai Sasakul in 1998 which earned him the World Boxing Championship (WBC) flyweight title.

After undergoing rigorous weight-training program, he qualified for the super bantamweight division and bagged the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight title when defeated Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in 2001.

Manny Pacquiao's string of victories was highlighted by his victory over Mexican superstar and three time world champion Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003. This was followed by a star-studded bout against WBA and IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in 2004 wherein Manny knocked down Marquez three times.

He moved up to the Super Featherweight Division in 2005 and faced Erik Morales in the boxing ring in March 2005. He lost the 12-round match by unanimous decision. In September of that year, he knocked out Hector Velasquez and captured the WBC International super featherweight title.

He scored victory by technical knock-out (TKO) over Erik Morales in a rematch held in January 2006. He earned a moniker, "Mexican Destroyer" when he won unanimously over Marco Antonio Barrera in a rematch held in Las Vegas, Nevada last October 6, 2007.

The most recent victory of our Pambansang Kamao, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao was when he won in a rematch held last March 15, 2008 over Juan Manuel Marquez. He earned the title reigning World Boxing Confederation (WBC) super featherweight champion.
