ANDRES BONIFACIO - THE GREAT PLEBEIAN

Andres Bonifacio y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897).   A Filipino nationalist and revolutionary hero. He is often called the “Father of the Philippine Revolution".  He founded the Katipunan on July 7, 1892 and became its Supremo (Supreme Leader). On August 23, 1896, he gathered his men in Balintawak and tore their cedulas (residence certificates) to symbolize their defiance to the Spanish rule.   Proclaimed in August 29, 1896 the general uprising at Pugad Lawin.   He lost the presidency of the Revolutionary Government to Emilio Aguinaldo at the Tejeros Assembly.  He was executed on May 10, 1897 by Aguinaldo's men in Mt. Buntis, Maragondon, Cavite for sedition.
